Thinking about life after high school?

Planning for college and/or post-secondary opportunities is a big job, but lots of help is available. One of your first steps is to ask the Guidance secretary for an appointment to talk with your school counselor. The Guidance Office can help you
  • prepare and register for college admission tests
  • research colleges and post-secondary options
  • find information about financial aid and scholarships
  • become informed with its collection of college handbooks, catalogs, and videos
  • meet reps from colleges around the country
  • schedule appointments to visit colleges

The Official SAT Online Course™ 

You'll need a site ID and password to create an account. Juniors will get online course registration cards from their advisors; others who wish to prepare for the test can get an online course registration card in the Guidance Office.
College search and planning
ACT/CollegeNET The Student Resources section of the ACT/CollegeNET website has tools to search for and apply to colleges, research financial aid, and take virtual campus tours.
Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada The AUCC is "the voice of Canada's universities," representing 94 Canadian public and private universities and university-degree level colleges.
Braintrack® Braintrack's® online college and university directory has information on more than 10,000 higher education institutions in 194 countries.

College Navigator College Navigator is a guided college search tool that provides the latest relevant data from the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics.
iTunes U Download tracks for campus tours, admissions and financial aid info, etc. on your  iPod, iPhone, or MLTI MacBook! Free iTunes account needed - visit, click Download Now, and follow  instructions. Once you have your account, go to the iTunes Store and look for iTunes U.

Peterson's College Planner Peterson's College Planner connect individuals, educational institutions, and corporations through various media; topics include colleges/universities, career schools, grad programs, distance learning, summer opportunities, study abroad, financial aid, test prep, and career exploration.
State of Maine Department of Education State of Maine Department of Education - Higher Education in Maine offers information on higher education in Maine and beyond to assist students and parents/counselors with information on higher ed and training options.
U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Outlook Handbook The yearly Occupational Outlook Handbook has information on hundreds of jobs, training and education needed, earnings, expected job prospects, what workers do on the job, working conditions, etc. You'll also find job search tips, links to job market information by state, and more.
The Common Application (Common App)
The Common Application is the recommended form for nearly 400 selective colleges and universities for admission to undergraduate programs, representing many higher education institutions in the U.S.: public and private, large and small, highly selective and modestly selective, East Coast, West Coast, and everywhere in between.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
If you are applying for financial aid you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Fill out the form online at FAFSA on the Web or get a paper form in Guidance. You can also access Student Aid on the Web through the FAFSA website, where you'll find information from the Department of Education on preparing for and funding your education beyond high school.
Financial aid and scholarships
BASAF BASAF, the Brunswick Area Student Aid Fund offers up to two years’ need-based financial assistance to residents of Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Brunswick, the Harpswells, or Topsham. Get the BASAF application in the Guidance Office or online.
BigFuture™ by The College Board Scholarship Search An online tool to help locate scholarships, internships, grants, and loans that match students' education level, talents, and background.
College Board CSS Financial Aid PROFILE® Register for the CSS Financial Aid PROFILE® online if you are applying for financial aid at a school that requires or uses PROFILE to award its institutional student financial aid.
FAFSA on the Web The financial aid application process begins here!
FAME The Finance Authority of Maine provides student financial aid information, as well as resources and information on NEXTGEN, Maine's tax-advantage college savings program.
